Lifespan of aluminium lampposts
Hard anodised aluminium lampposts last much longer and have a more luxurious appearance than steel lampposts or brushed aluminium lampposts.
This is due to the very hard shell around the aluminium.
The Brinell hardness is indicated in the most commonly used test standards (ASTM E10-14 and ISO 6506–1:2005) as HBW.
H stands for the hardness, B for Brinell and W for the material of the intruder: tungsten carbide.
Steel S235 has a hardness of approximately 100 HBW.
Normal aluminium has a hardness of 15 to 20 HBW, the outside of hard anodised aluminium has a hardness of 200 HBW or higher.
In addition, hard anodised aluminium is resistant to acids and salts and UV radiation. The expected lifespan of the hard anodized aluminum ROSA masts is more than 50 years.
