The IP69K rating provides protection against dust ingress, protection against high temperatures and high pressure (water) – making products with this certification ideal for use in conditions that require careful decontamination of equipment. In sectors such as food processing, where hygiene and cleanliness is a priority, equipment must be able to withstand not only high pressure but also high temperature. In many industries, where dust and dirt can be a problem, it is important to ensure that the dust cannot penetrate the housing of a product and cause malfunctions.
The IP69K rating is the highest possible protection available.
How is a product tested to qualify for the IP69K rating?
Products rated IP69K undergo a challenging set of tests to ensure they provide adequate protection against high pressure and high temperature. The water penetration tests themselves were done by placing the product on a turntable with a rotational speed of 5 ±1 revolutions per minute. The product is then tested by spraying at a short distance at a rate of approximately 4 gallons/16 liters of water per minute with water pressure between 1160-1450 psi, at a temperature of 176°F / 80°C. The distance from the nozzle from which the water is sprayed to the distance from the product is about 10 cm and is done from different angles. After this rigorous testing procedure, if the product can completely withstand water ingress, the product will receive the IP Rating.
